Many years ago, someone very close to me was diagnosed with a type of leukemia myeloid blood disorder called chronic (CML), which is a type of cancer of the white blood cells. It is a form of leukemia characterized by increased and unregulated growth of predominantly myeloid cells in the bone marrow and the accumulation of these cells in the blood.
This article tells the story of his life, and in the hope that by sharing his story can help others experience the same situation as that saved her.
It's just a normal person with a normal life and a simple life-like yours and mine. His only trouble was. Her immune system was consistently low, and as a result she gets sick easily. He also had a tonsillectomy when he was 24 years old. After tonsillectomy, his immunity level is decreased further. He could not go near within a foot of someone who is sick, even a simple flu or cough. If it does, we will immediately capture, and she gets sick for at least a week. He always constantly consumes drugs and supplements such as vitamin's B, C and E every day.
One of his unhealthy habits was she was a person who does not like to consume plenty of water. His daily intake of water is less than one liter per day. It was also a very active person. Although it was not an active person, he was not overweight either. He worked as an elementary school teacher, teaching English to students from rural areas where English is not the native language. His work is often very stressful.
It was first diagnosed with CML when he was 55 years old, right out of the board. It all started with a high fever. His fever was about 38.5 degrees and could not subside. It been hospitalized as the fear of the doctor, who has contracted dengue fever. When the result of the blood test came out the doctor was surprised. His white blood cell counts were down from the roof! What followed was a series of blood tests and a bone marrow test. The result came out positive for CML. According to the doctors, she was a lucky woman. At the time, she was diagnosed; his CML was still in a very early stage. They told her that she could live at least up to 5 years with the help of oral chemotherapy.
That was the beginning of years of oral chemotherapy. Year after year, her cancer has grown so the consumption of oral chemotherapy drugs. First, it started with one pill a day, then it became two eventually increase up to six pills a day. Then, when the cancer scored immune to the drug, doctors changed her medication, every time that increases the level of chemo, and again, the cycle repeats. Past 12 years, it was the year 2009. His condition deteriorated further when the cancer moved into the final phase of accelerated. It was insensitive to any chemotherapy drugs. At that point of time, there were no other drugs on the market that did not show, except for one, which was a trial drug. To be accepted into the drug program track, had to undergo weeks of testing and the doctors fed with other medications to stabilize his condition and to meet the minimum requirement to qualify under the program. Finally, with much difficulty and 3 months of non-stop testing laboratory has been accepted into the program. Sometimes, I wonder if it was a blessing or a curse.
Once again repeats the same story. First was consuming two pills a day for the first month, but his cancer was not showing signs of improvement. It then increases by one finally 6 days. This was when the doctors stopped her pills. His body could not take it anymore. His blood platelets dropped to 6K, which well below critical. His gums and eyes started to bleed. Her body suffered internal bleeding. Black spots from all over the body and his body weight dropped from 45 kg to 35 kg. It grew white as a sheet of paper that has been bleached. He was so weak that even simple activity such as walking was difficult, and she was confined to her bed most of the time. It been hospitalized for weekly blood transfusion. Although she suffered a blood transfusion (at least 2 packages -4) on a weekly basis, his platelet counts, he could not go above the critical level. The body could not keep blood platelets alive, and his white blood cell counts continue to increase. At this point, the doctors gave up on her! They said to her husband that there is nothing more " they " can do for you as with or without treatment, he will die!
At this point, his family was desperate. They started to look for an alternative treatment to help her. They have tried many other traditional treatments, including herbs, but to no avail. Now, after 1.5 years from the first day of his treatment, his condition is almost back to normal. Her platelet count is almost 120K, his white blood cell counts are under control with the help of a very mild dose of oral chemotherapy (6 pills per week), had put on his back his missing 10 kg of weight, and she did not is as pale as a ghost. It is also leading a normal lifestyle and healthy now. It consumes at least 3 liters of water a day and exercises every day. His eyes, gums and internal bleeding stopped. All the black spots on his body, there are more and the best of everything he could continue to do all the things he loved! His family celebrated his recovery with a party at a restaurant. A meal, they did not enjoy since the day he fell ill 12 years ago.
