How to Become a Health Coach

The preventive health is a much more intelligent approach to be healthy instead of having a curative approach. It much more difficult and expensive to restore health than it is to maintain. Health coaching is becoming a growing career field that is enjoying a lot of acclaim in recent media stories. Paul Zane Pilzer is a New York Times selling author who once predicted that the health and well-being would soon be a billion-dollar industry. His prediction seems to be accurate.



Success coaches health and well-being should be naturally health conscious. Having a commitment to eat healthy, live a healthy life and maintain a certain degree of physical fitness should be a priority. Customers naturally want to take health and wellness coaches who walk their walk and talk their talk. 

To assess whether to become a health coach would be a good career, do some research regarding the salary, now, and the opportunities that are currently offered to health coaches. Interview with local health and wellness coaches to determine the climate of your area within the field. Evaluate the demographics and economy of the area to determine if a health and wellness activities in question might have a good chance of being successful. Consider if residents of your area are health conscious and have disposable income.

The majority of health and wellness coaches work for themselves in the form of a private practice. This requires the presence of a solid business skill and experience. Organizational behavior, marketing strategies and the determination would also be useful. 

There are many schools that offer certification for health and wellness coaches. Some schools offer distance learning, while others offer online classes or participating weekend. Look closely at the different schools and compare their qualifications, tuition, and the success of their graduates. 

Contact local colleges to evaluate their programs as well. Options should include obtaining a degree in dietetics, public health, and other fields such as counseling, psychology or sociology.

The most important strategy when evaluating a school is to look for the graduates from the school of health coach you are considering getting opinions and experiences of current students and graduates obtain advice they might have. 

Ask about their experiences that may have already with their health career coaching and find out what kind of career options they have discovered. You can also politely ask their income, they received as coach of health. Some schools of health and wellness coaching offer discounts to friends and family of alumni, which could be an added benefit to contact a recent grad of a school nutrition you are considering.
